PENROSE, Colo. (KKTV) - Arrest papers for Jon and Carie Hallford, owners
of the Return to Nature funeral home where nearly 200 bodies were found
improperly stored, were released Thursday. The documents revealed some
of the shocking details of the case, including some of the conditions
investigators experienced inside of the funeral home and some of the
transactions made by the Hallfords at the time.
WARNING: Some of the details shared in this article and in the arrest
papers themselves are graphic.
The papers were made public following a hearing for Jon Hallford that
determined he would be headed to trial for the case. A similar ruling
was made for Carie Hallford late last month. Many details from the
papers were shared during her court hearing last month, but the full
details werent available at that time.
According to arrest papers, investigators located 189 bodies in the
building that were stored unrefrigerated, in rooms infested by bugs and
the liquid decomposition of other bodies.
The full arrest papers for Jon Hallford can be found at the bottom of
this article. The court ruled that photos of the funeral home would be
redacted from the document.
Detailed in them are an in-depth explanation of the buildings
conditions, claims that at least 190 death certificates had been forged
by the Hallfords, improper burial of a woman in a grave at Pikes Peak
Cemetery labeled for a veteran who was identified inside the building
and luxury expenditures made throughout the years with money received
from victim families.
